Glued Groups

There are so many groups out there that have that glossy glued look about them. They drive me crazy! I think to myself, "Are you really into that for the benefits are is it for the look, the resume builder, the approval..." I just do not buy into it. There is something great about being part of some thing bigger. Most people need that reassurance that what they are doing counts.

I am coming to terms with the fact that I do not need to be part of that BIGGER picture...as in a group of some sort. I am comfortable being separate from the main stream.

An example would be the one time visit to the MOM GROUP>>>oh yeah, I did it and it sucked!!! The moms were so boring and all they wanted to talk about were there kids. That is all fine and dandy but it was not enough for me. A side note: they were all wearing plain jane white socks. BORING!!!! I did not fit and neither did Quincie. The moms were already talking about how much personality she had.....It is definitely brighter than any of those ladies personalities.

Last Sunday I attended a church for a baby committment ceremony. It was alright. The topic was meaningful and I actually took away some items for thought. It was temporary. The instant gratification of feeling great lasted oh a day. Great. Thanks for that, were is that feeling for the rest of the week.

My thought is that these groups provied a security net for so many, conditioning them to be a like, Glossy and Glued. Cohesive.

I am more than that. I am going to accept my individuality and run with against the grain.

Possible split

Spoiled by the Dansko clog. Purchased 3 years ago in an attempt to comfort my much swollen prego feet. They helped, a little. At that time nothing probably would have helped. Now they are a best friend. I love them, when the weather turns chill they are the every day go to. I even wear them at work...they are the best shoe ever. They hold up to the pressure of the constant step. Very impressed with these American made (imported style from Denmark) shoes. So impressed I am having a hard to parting.

I want a break up...I want to venture out, see what other shoes are awaiting my winter pleasure. See, I only wear a closed toe shoe requiring socks in the winter. They are not a favorite of mine. Closed toe shoes...I do not love you. My love lies with the flip flop...or no shoes. I use to appreciate the coziness of a cute sock inside a lovely shoe, but as I grow older, not so much!!!

The dilemma is that I am ready to move on to a new style. How ever finding that total package is going to be hard to find. Comfort, style, the ease of the slip on with out slipping off. I may just need a new pair, new color. I may need a new look altogether.

This is the current shoe.....black and simple and comfortable.

I have had a soft spot for the Mary Jane Dansko.

Most of my friends say they are a "MOM" shoe. Well, they kind of are, not that cool, not that bad. I could be wearing the white New Balance all purpose sneaker with the light wash tiny ankle jean.

A doozy of a day

It has been such a long day. The kids, the messes, the noise, and the neighbors dogs barking has made this day at home so incredibly long............On the bright side the weather is beautiful. We spent the majority of the day playing outside, ending the night with an enjoyable walk. We had a great dinner, that is always nice and now it is time to wind down and get the kids ready for bed (thank goodness). Another day, another night.

Chronic lists.......

I am continually trying to look at my daily dealings with the sunny side up. Now this is a continual process, most days are not that sunny. The first step for me is to keep track of all the things I do in the day rather than write the never ending TO DO list!!! This is something I am famous for. Actually lists in general are a specialty of mine. It is a way of clearing my head, giving way to more thoughts of things I can do! I love list making so much that I have devoted a notebook, or more like many notebooks to making lists.

Here is a small sample of the many TOPICS I like..............

  • TO DO
  • Things I have done
  • Goals today and future
  • Craft projects
  • Silly phrases Quincie says
  • Task's I accomplish in an hour
  • Mail I would like to send
As you can see the list can go on forever. I also love to help friends make lists. They are not always as receptive as I would like them to be. Most people make the one or two lists may be once a week, not so much the multiple lists in one day. When I have a big project, Melissa will always ask about the many lists I have going on. I laugh because she is right with the many. For example, for Quincie's birthday party I had about 5 lists in the works. The lists consisted of: TO DO, MENU, SHOPPING, PEOPLE ATTENDING, TREAT BAGS/PARTY ACTIVITIES.

Crazy I know, but it keeps me feeling sane. As I sit here, it is jogging some other big time lists I have done. How about the list of all the items still needed before baby Clyde arrived, the pros and cons of dating a boy, and the ever constant list of what is needed at the grocery.

Wave the mommy banner

In case you forgot that I was a Mommy, here are a few reminders that are oh so great.

1. Coffee has become a dear friend of mine, yeah that's right. Coffee with lots of sugar and cream!!

2. I have love for my mini-van.

3. My hair became very, very short, and now is awkward because I decided to grow it out. Imagine that!!!

4. Common phrases: "Are you kidding me?", "This is your last chance!", "One thing at a time."

5. Pizza buffet with a friend and her kids sounds fun.

6. My hand bag became a diaper bag, a fun bag, a bag of all things, perhaps a Mary Poppins bag, or just an insanely large bag. So big that a cashier once said, " That is the largest bag I have ever seen!" Great, Thanks for that comment. As if I really forgot that the 40 extra pounds on my shoulder was not a bag of endless tricks!

Celebrity sighting

Alright, in the span of a week I have had several run ins with wild animals. The first being Bambi's Dad. Since it is fall it gets dark at 7......so with a maglight in tow, I set out for a brisk walk. There was a shadow that caught my eye for a brief moment I thought it was a figurine, the fake kind of deer that my fellow midwesterners love, yard art. Well when the flashlight lit up the shadow I was stunned to find out that it was a Buck, a large one at that. It was at least a 10 point buck. WHAT!!!!??? In town. Crazy!!!! I quickly turned the light off not to startle the buck.....I thought that is just the last thing I need this week is to get caught up in some of Bambi's Dads' antlers!!!

After this, a day or so passed and I found myself driving to the grocery at about 10pm. With the brights on (in the neighborhood, thanks Dan...Sally's dad) I was surprised again by what I saw. There was a fox hovering in a driveway. Again I thought to myself, WHAT!!! A fox!

Too much. All I can think is that man is taking up too much space and the once wild animals have no where to go....sad.

Side note: When my brother and I were little, mom would take us out for a night country drive to shine deer. We were always amazed by all the deer in the field. No longer do we need to take such drives, they are in our back yard.

Eve of Dance

Quincie and I spent the afternoon preparing for dance class. She is super excited and ready for some fun. It will be so good for her and me. She has been wearing the entire outfit all night. The tap shoes are the preference over the ballet slippers, of course they make noise!!! All the excitement has brought back many memories I have of dance. It made me feel so good to dance. Ballet was thrilling and challenging. The music and shoes made me into a person with great posture and an appreciation for slow moving music. It slowed me down to a pace that was comfortable. That is the only time in my life that I have felt relaxed for more than a minute. May be I should start again.......I am proud to pass this love onto my daughter. I hope for her that she loves it as much as I did.

4 to 1

This is incredible, I have had a only one coke for the last two days. For everyone that knows me, knows that this is unheard of. I am on the 4 cokes a day, everyday! I am not sure what sparked the change, but it feels great. The craving has subsided and I am onto better things: Water!! Who I am, I do not know. My love affair with Coca-Cola has been long standing. I am Coke. I am a fountain Coke, I am a Coke with every meal and then some. I am the morning girl that loves the sound of a fresh coke being poured into an icy glass from the fridge. No longer. I already miss the ice cold drink, but now enough to pour one.
